Okay guys, some of you might know I used to be in a sorority… and honestly, I don’t think there’s anyone else that wears as much glitter as a sorority girl during college! We wore glitter literally everywhere and for everything. Bid day? Let’s put some glitter on! Social? Glitter!! You get the idea and the video below proves it. Anyways, I feel like nothing else boosts your makeup or look as much as glitter, whether you are going to an event, a wedding or just dressing up for halloween… But, using it can be kinda tricky, so here are some tips!
PICK THE RIGHT TYPE
Picking the right glitter for the job is so important! Craft glitter is very cheap but it has sharp edges and is colored by using dyes. These can rub off it onto your skin and can be difficult to remove. Also, if you decide to put it on your face, you could get small cuts. It is great for crafts, but be careful when you want to apply it on yourself.
Cosmetic glitter is different altogether. It is usually much finer and has rounded edges so it won’t cut your skin. It is also made from a special non-toxic plastic that is colored with pigments. These are not going to rub off on your skin or clothes and they are perfectly safe to use. And because all of us should be aware of our footprint, it is a better choice to buy the glitter that is made from biodegradable plastic.
It is also important that you have a good makeup base to add the glitter to. I’ve heard that dose of colors and Mac have amazing primers!

APPLY IT THE RIGHT WAY
You should apply the glitter to your face before you put the final touches to your makeup. For instance, if you intend putting some on your eyelids do it before putting on your mascara.
It is also best if you use a brush to apply it. This will give you more control over where it goes. Trying to do it with your fingers will just end up with it everywhere except where you wanted it.
You can use an adhesive, but a good moisturizer might be enough. It really depends on the amount you intend using and what part of your face you are applying it too. If you are putting just a small amount on your cheekbones, just as an example, moisturizer will be enough. However, if you are putting some anywhere near your eyes or mouth where the muscles move a lot more, the adhesive is probably a better option.
Also, if you are putting glitter on your body, just apply some vaseline first and it will just stick and hold in its place.
DON’T OVERDO IT
If you put glitter on your eyes, lips, and cheeks you will look as though a bag of it has been thrown over you. It is better to pick an area, such as the upper part of your face, and to only put it there. This will have a much better effect, especially if you stick with quite neutral makeup tones.
But, if it’s your sorority’s bid day, then you could literally bathe in a glitter tub and be fine!
USE PRODUCTS THAT INCLUDE GLITTER
If you just use a makeup product that already contains it, you don’t have to go through the whole process of applying it on yourself without looking like a glitter bomb just exploded in front of you. I have been using these Lancome eyeliners and they are amazing, especially the gold one that basically looks like glitter. There are also eyeshadows and other makeup products that have glitter in them. With the introduction of products such as these made from regenerated eucalyptus cellulose, they are harmless to the planet and look great at the same time.
