Detox is a word that has been all over social media for a while now, you’ve surely heard of detox juices, detox pills, and literally detox everything. Well, a week ago I started noticing this rash or dullness on my face. I don’t know if it was a light allergic reaction to some product I had been using, or if it was because I forgot to take my makeup off a couple of times… So, I decided to give my face a complete detox, before freaking out and scheduling an appointment with the dermatologist. This is a complete guide on how to give your face or skin a detox and my personal experience + results.
For me a facial detox, meant giving my skin a week to not only rest from makeup, but to remove all impurities, toxins and dead skin cells to renew and reset my skin to bring it back to life and to how it normally looks or hopefully better than ever before!

NO MAKEUP
First things first, I stopped wearing makeup for the entire week, with exception of eyebrow powder and occasionally concealer. The detox is to make your skin rest, so go makeup-free for one week. I’ve gone makeup-free for a week or more, several times before and it always works. It leaves my skin feeling softer and better.
CLEANSE TWICE A DAY
I cleanse twice a day to allow my skin to feel refreshed after a long day and night. I cleanse in the morning as soon as I wake up, followed by my morning skincare routine and then at night, to cleanse my skin from the impurities and oil buildup, followed by my night routine.
It is also essential to find what cleanser works better for your skin type. I have combination skin and the ones below are my all-time favorites. They don’t dry out my skin, but remove the oils buildup and impurities.
FOLLOW YOUR SKINCARE ROUTINE
While you’re dong your detox, keep following your skincare routines. Just keep applying your creams, serums, toners or whatever you normally apply. And don’t forget to exfoliate regularly.
DRINK LOTS OF WATER
It doesn’t matter how many products you’re using and how extensive your skincare routine might be, if you’re not drinking enough water. Simple as that, so just drink your 8 cups of water or more daily.
GET A DETOXIFYING FACE MASK
Normally the best detoxifying masks are mud masks, there are formulated to draw out the impurities in our skin. The ones below are my favorite ones and they work amazingly! Anyways, try to apply this mask every other day during your detox. So, if you’re trying to detox for a week, I’d try to apply this mud mask at least 3 times during that period of time.
MY EXPERIENCE + RESULTS
I decided to do this facial detox for a week. It was a bit hard not to wear makeup for a whole week, if I’m being completely honest it made me feel a bit self-conscious about my dark circles and imperfections.
