Back in 2019, I had to have surgery in the neck area, which resulted in a big ugly scar. I am grateful it was a simple procedure and that I’m perfectly healthy. But, having that scar made me feel self-conscious. For the first year after the surgery, I tried many different ways to make it “disappear” and to hide it. While I don’t try to hide my scar anymore, I thought this information would be helpful for others because sometimes we just want to tone down their visibility. So, here’s how to hide scars effortlessly.
Consider a chemical peel
Chemical peels are a fantastic option if you have a scar in the facial area. There are different types of chemical peels that vary in intensity. Deeper chemical peels offer more dramatic results but also take longer to recover from.
In this treatment, a specially formulated chemical solution is applied to the scarred area. This causes the upper layers of the skin to gradually dry and eventually peel away. Over the course of several days, you’ll notice the skin peeling, revealing a smoother, more even complexion underneath.
Scar reducing creams
If your scar is relatively new and on the lighter side, starting with a scar-reducing cream is a smart move. The La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Balm has been trending on TikTok as a scar treatment.
Try micro-needling
Microneedling sounds very intimidating, and while I have never gotten it done, I have friends who have and trust me, it does work. If you look at the treatment instructions, you will see that it involves tiny needles (way less scary than it sounds) that help stimulate collagen production, which makes your skin look more plump and youthful. Plus, it’s great for reducing the appearance of scars over time.
Use concealer
The makeup technique is as important as the skin prep. Make sure to start with a primer, then bring in a high-coverage waterproof concealer that’s a perfect match for your skin tone. Blend it like a pro with a beauty blender, and voilà.
Personally, I like applying concealer with a small rounded brush. I also like to use a very small amount of product to prevent caking – it just makes it look more natural.
PS. If you’re looking for a new concealer, I recommend the NYX HD Studio Concealer. It’s less than $5, has good coverage, is blendable, and it always looks flawless.
Massage your scars
Gentle massaging can do miracles for scarred skin, it can help break down scar tissue and improve blood flow. It’s like giving your skin a mini spa treatment. You want to use lotion to help your hands glide along the scar. It is recommended to apply light pressure and increase it gradually as you massage. Here’s an in-depth guide to massage your scars.
Try aloe vera
Aloe Vera is pretty much the Swiss Army knife of the plant world. It’s known for its healing properties and is fantastic for scar care, amongst other things. It supports the skins’ natural process while soothing irritation. All you need to do is apply it to the scarred area regularly.
Always keep in mind that your scars are chapters of your unique life story. Embrace them as part of your incredible journey.
