We all know partying is a huge part of college, and it is probably one of the things that makes college an amazing experience. But with college being an escape of parental oversight, anything can happen at college parties. And while, that makes us more independent, it also requires us to take on a lot of responsibilities like personal safety and self control. Sure, partying is a lot of fun, but it also can become a problem. It can be a problem, if it keeps you from doing other stuff, like focusing on school. And a much bigger problem if you develop a certain addiction. So, whether if you just want to stop parting, because you want to focus on school or because you want to move on with your life after college, here are 5 ways to help you stop partying.
Don’t get me wrong, I love partying and I don’t mean you should stop partying for the rest of your live and never have another sip of alcohol until the day you day. I mean, it is sometimes good to take a break so you can set your priorities right and shift your lifestyle. My freshman year of college, I was partying literally every weekend, and while that was a lot of fun, it started to have a negative impact on my grades. So, I stopped partying for a month and decided to focus on my grades instead.
Giving yourself a break from partying can also be an opportunity to find a new way to balance having fun and focusing on things that matter, such as your career. And if you’re unsure if partying has become a problem for you, then you should read this post.
Find friends who don’t always want to party
If you’re trying to stop partying, but everything your friends want to do is to party and binge drink, then that’s not going to work for you. I’m going to be honest, stop partying will require some self control. And if you truly want to stop and focus on other things, then you may have to say goodbye – temporarily at least – to the people who are holding you back. Okay, I will stop being so dramatic, you don’t have to say goodbye, just don’t hangout with them as much or explain them why you’re giving yourself (your liver) a break from partying. If they’re really your friends, they’ll be happy that you’re making a positive change in your life.Â
And after that, find friends who don’t always party! And you can avoid partying together!
Find New Hobbies
If you’re trying to give up your partying ways, then you need to find something constructive to replace it with. If you’re just staring at the wall, wondering about all the parties and fun you’re missing out on, then you’ll be sad and you’ll eventually give in. So find something more enjoyable to do with your time. There are a million and one fun hobbies you can take up instead. Now’s the time to try new activities that don’t involve alcohol. You never know where your new hobby might lead, if you give it a try.
Think of the bigger picture, prioritize
Finally, think of the bigger picture. Not everything in life is partying and binge drinking, duh. You know deep down that you need to behave more responsibly, because yes, college is fun but with college also come responsibilities. While it can be hard to stop partying, it’ll be easier if you start prioritizing.Â
For example, if you’re a college student focus on your classes and grades, instead of which frat is throwing a party next Friday. You need to focus on the reason why you decided to go to college in the first place. It for sure wasn’t (just) for partying, but to get a degree and to eventually be successful. So instead of focusing on the fact that you’re not partying anymore, you should focus on the fact that if you stop to party and focus on school, you’ll achieve your goals. It’ll be just a thing you’ll have to give up, in order to achieve something more fulfilling.Â
Peer pressure
While, I’m not a person who easily gives in to peer pressure, I have friends that do. And if you’re too, you need to realize that your happiness, health and conscience are way more important than what people might think if you say no. Learn how to say no and don’t feel bad for saying no or for looking “uncool“. Being responsible and not giving in to peer pressure, just shows how mature you are.
Take Steps to Move Forward
For some, quitting partying is easier said than done. If you’ve made mistakes during your wild years, then these mistakes may hang around even when you’re trying to go on the straight and narrow. The most common issues are to do with the law and money. If you’ve got a criminal record, then contact a firm like DufflyLawCT.com, and try to get that record expunged. If you have debt issues, then take steps to get rid of it, either through living a frugal life and paying off more each month than normal, consolidating your loans, or, if the case is more severe, filing for bankruptcy. Those are the most severe mistakes or consequences of partying. But other consequences could be your grades, or substance addiction. If that’s your situtaion, don’t be afraid to seek for help.
