Your ENTIRE closet
Maybe this one is a little bit obvious but it is so hard for some people (me) to leave some stuff behind. I literally get separation anxiety when I donβt have all of my clothes with me so I brought *almost* my entire closet to college. And when I had to move out, I couldnβt fit my things in the car. We had to make 2 trips and I had enough things to fill 2 SUVβs. I had 2 suitcases just full of shoes and the rest was mostly clothes. Besides, dorms are so tiny, youβll barely have some closet space. Also, when packing your clothes, donβt bring with you things you think you ~might~ wear or things you havenβt worn in the last 6 moths. Because, guess what? You wonβt wear them. Also, a huge mistake some freshmen make is that they bring their high school apparel. Just leave that at home, youβre starting a new chapter in your life. And besides, it looks ridiculous to wear a high school jersey in collegeβ¦ Related: 6 Things You Should do Your First Week of CollegeCleaning supplies
The only cleaning supply you should bring to college are Lysol wipes. But you shouldnβt take a broom or a vacuum with you. Do you actually think youβll use that vacuum? I donβt think so, theyβll just occupy some precious space. Β Besides, most residential halls have brooms and dust pans students can use.A TV
You probably just wonβt have space in your dorm. Besides, youβll have your laptop with you.Things your roommate is also brining
Coordination is key. Talk with your roommate and decide what each of you is going to bring. For example, my roommate brought a printer and I brought a water filter. Just coordinate with your roommate, the last thing you want to do is to buy something only to find out your roommate bought the same thing! This is an obvious one, too. But youβd be amazed if you found out how many people forget to check what their school is providing. For example, many dorms have already microwaves and mini fridges. At my dorm we even had trash cans and they provided toilet paper and trash bags.Things that arenβt allowed at your residential hall
Again, youβd be surprised how many people forget to check this list of things. Colleges have full lists of what students arenβt allowed to bring. A couple examples are toasters, candles and irons. Basically because they donβt want you burning down the school.Things you think you *might* use
If you think you might use it, you probably wonβt. So donβt waste your money (and space) on something you arenβt sure youβll need. Instead, arrive to campus and see how the first couple weeks go and after that time, if you still feel like youβll need that thing, go ahead and buy it. I bought a clothing steamer because I was like βomg I canβt wear wrinkled clothesβ, guess what, I only use that steamer once in a whole year. I know dorm shopping can be really exciting and there are so many cute things youβre going to want to buy, but follow these college shopping tips to stick to the essentials.Printer
I guess this is a tricky one, Iβd recommend you not to bring one, but so many students say you should totally bring one. I guess it just depends on you. For example, my roommate brought a printer but I barely used it a couple times, because in my school there were print stations everywhere and it was pretty cheap. Iβd recommend you not to get one, just because they are big and take some space off of your desk or wherever you decide to place it. And also Iβve heard some people have trouble connecting their printers to the wifi and they end up never using it. I promise you there are so many print stations on campus. Besides, if you think about it, almost everything is done online. Most assignments are supposed to be submitted online, so you probably wonβt need that printer as much as you think you will.
