Who says we have to let fruits take a backseat to sugary treats? I get it, chocolate lava cakes and brownies are hard to resist, but trust me, fruits can be the MVP in your dessert game too. They’re juicy, sweet, and most importantly, they’re good for you! So why are we often ditching them for less-than-healthy options? It’s time to step up your dessert game and let fruits take center stage. Here are some simple, yet classic ways to use fruits in dessert recipes.
Add fruit as toppings
This is one of the most underrated ways to add more fruit to your diet. Some berries or banana slices can elevate any dessert recipe, really. For example, you can ditch the sugary frosting on your cake and go for whipped cream and strawberries instead. Plus, it’s an Insta-worthy decoration.
Fruit is also delicious on top of ice cream or jello.
Use them in pies
Who can say no to a fruit pie? Not me! Apple pie is a timeless fave, and it’s surprisingly simple to whip up. If you’re short on time, a store-bought crust is a total game changer. But hey, why stop at apple pie? You can mix things up with your favorite fruits and even create your own pie.

Bread Pudding is always an option
Bread pudding is another simple recipe that everyone loves. Most of us are used to making the traditional bread pudding. But why not make it more interesting? Try adding fruits and nuts. It often works well with dried fruit mixtures so if you have a family member or friend that loves raisins and sultanas, this could be a winner.
Fruit Sorbet
Can’t do dairy? No worries! Sorbet is the answer to all your ice-cream-cravings prayers. This is one of my all-time favorite desserts — in my opinion, there is nothing better than a strawberry and banana sorbet with some chocolate chips on top.
And making it at home has never been easier. I recently got the Yonanas sorbet maker and it has been a game changer! I use it at least once a week. The best part? All you need is frozen fruit and the toppings of your choice.
My sister has the Ninja ice cream maker, which has a sorbet setting and it works perfectly too! It also has the ability to mix in your toppings. It is a bit pricey but I think it is definitely worth the investment if you find yourself buying ice cream very often. Consider it as an investment in your health as well, because food is obviously healthier when made at home.
Jam
Jams and jellies are an excellent way to make use of fruit. Although I’ve never made jam myself because of how time-consuming it can be, this is something I’d love to try making soon!
Strawberries and blueberries are perfect for making jams and you can often buy them in bulk. When they’re in season, you can find a better deal by visiting your local fruit farmer’s market rather than a grocery store.
Spread it on toast or use it as a cake filling; it’s super versatile.
