I’ve always been that type of girl, who takes literally forever to get ready. Well, maybe not forever, but close enough. And because of that, I’ve always been that type of girl, who is always late to everything. Choosing the perfect outfit, doing my hair and makeup takes time, and people say, the best things take time, right? When I got to college I really struggled a lot. I was always late for class and I even ended up skipping class sometimes, because I was going to be too late. So, I had to figure out a way to get ready faster. And I did, so here are 10 hacks to get ready faster in the morning.
Put off checking your phone
The first thing I do when I wake up is checking my phone. Which can be very time-consuming once you get suck into that social media loop. Put off checking your social media and messages. You can do it while you’re having breakfast, during your break at work or in between classes.
Multi-task
If you’re brushing your hair, turn your straightener or curling iron so that they’re hot when you’re ready to use them. Brush your teeth, while you watch the news or quickly skim through emails/notifications.
Stick to the basics
Sticking to the basics is a must if you want to get ready faster. And by that I mean, skipping steps like curling or straightening your hair or applying primer, baking, contouring and all of those extra steps you go through when you want to look glam. Instead, just stick to the basics. Do your makeup and hair routine as basic as possible. Now, it takes me 5 minutes to do my daily makeup look. It’s easy, fast, basic AF & I love it. Same with my skincare routine. I’m all of a very thorough skincare routine, but there are those days when you simply don’t have time or just feel lazy. On those days I only apply some moisturizer + SPF.

Braid your hair the night before
If you like curing your hair, but don’t have enough time, this is something you totally should try. Just braid your hair the night before. Just remember the thicker the braid the bigger and more loose the curls are. And in the morning just undo the braids and your hair will look wavy/curly. This is basically my secret to have wavy hair without using any heat.
Dry shampoo is your best friend
Honestly, dry shampoo is a huge life savior. Have you ever woken up with greasy hair, but didn’t have time to take a shower? The solution is easy, just apply some dry shampoo! And if you happen to run out of dry shampoo, just apply some loose powder or even cornstarch instead – lol found this one out one desperate morning.
Wear a headband
If your hair is so greasy and not even dry shampoo can fix it (let’s hope this doesn’t happen), a quick solution is to wear a headband. You can even wear a scarf as a headband. And if you don’t like that idea, just make a messy bun or a ponytail. Or just wear a hat instead.
Plan your outfit the night before
If I had a dollar for every time I was late because I couldn’t decide what to wear, I’d be the richest person on earth. And if you could relate to that, you totally should start planning your outfits the night before. It saves lots of time and energy.

Have designated outfits for those days
I have some designated outfits for those days when I’m running late or I’m just too lazy to choose what to wear. But how do you designate outfits for those days? It is simple, just choose an outfit that’s simple and basic and add some accessories. Maybe it is your favorite outfit. Or maybe just a comfy outfit you wore a couple weeks ago? Having designated outfits will definitely help you to get ready faster in the mornings.
For me, my designated outfits are outfits I’ve worn a thousand times and I know they look good no matter what.
And when in doubt, just put on a dress or choose a workout outfit. Why a dress? Because it’s only one piece and you don’t have to worry about matching separate pieces. And why a workout outfit? Because it’s comfy, simple and quick to just throw on.
Eat breakfast on the go
Stuck up on cereal bars, fruits and yogurt, for those days when you don’t have time to sit and have breakfast. You could also take your breakfast with you and if it’s a lecture, you can even eat in class, don’t feel bad about it, you have no idea how many people eat in class all the time. Just make sure is a lecture with a lot of people in the big classroom or auditorium. If it’s a small class, you should check with the professor to see if they’re okay with it.
Make your breakfast the night before
If you don’t like eating on-the-go, there a lot of overnight breakfast recipes, that can save you some precious time in the mornings.
Pack your bag the night before
Looking for your books, phone, planner and other things you might need, can take up unnecessary time you could’ve used to have breakfast or commute. So just pack your bag the night before.
