Learn how to do laundry
This is a must, you should learn how to do laundry because you don’t want your clothes shrinking or all of your white socks and clothes turning red. Literally everyone hates doing laundry, but you have to do it unless you bring enough clothes for months or take it back to your parents all the time. Even though doing laundry is annoying, it’s very easy. Always make sure to check the instruction label of your clothing!Contact your soon-to-be roommate
Add her on social media or send her an email. Just try to get to know her, since you both will be living together for an entire year. And also decide who’s going to bring what, so that you both don’t show up with the same things on moving day.Get into the college mindset
Okay maybe you’ve already heard a million times that college is different from high school. And it totally is. In high school you are still reminded when assignments are due and you’re reminded to study for the exams. In college it is up to you if you skip class or if you don’t study or forget to submit an assignment, it is 100% your own responsibility. Aside of that, if you’re going to live on campus, you’ll decide when to wake up, when to do homework, when to eat or when and when to go out. The point is that your parents won’t be there to control what you do. And even though that can be amazing, because you’re basically (and finally) living on your own, a lot of responsibility comes with it. So learn how to manage your time the right way. And when you’re feeling like you are getting sidetracked, remember that you are in college for one reason: to get a degree and be successful in life.Get organized
Take this moment to clean up your room and throw away or donate things you don’t use anymore. You should also delete old files from your laptop/computer and throw away or recycle notebooks and books you don’t need anymore. Related: What NOT to bring to collegeClean up your social media
A couple months ago I was going through my Facebook timeline and I used to post the most embarrassing things ever! And the photos I was tagged in literally made me cringe. So you could maybe use this summer to clean up your social media and delete embarrassing old posts. Also, remember that college is the perfect time to reinvent yourself!Limit your time on social media
I feel like this sounds weird coming from me because I literally put so much time and effort on this blog and social media. But, as funny as it might sound, I really never spend longer than 2 hour on Instagram a day. I never really use Facebook, I deleted my snapchat and honestly have no idea how twitter works. Why? I guess this topic deserves its on post, but I feel like social media drains you and the secret to not lose time on it, is to find balance. As you go into college, you’ll find yourself busier than ever, and it gets worse every year. So, limiting your time on social media might help!Learn how to cook
Even though during your freshman year you’ll be most likely eating at the dining hall, it is always good to know how to cook. I ate at the dinning hall my first semester but I ended up quitting the meal plan my second semester. And since I lived in a suite-style dorm, that had its own kitchen, I could cook. I’m not going to lie, it was hard, the only food I knew how to cook was pasta and burnt rice, so I would mostly eat junk food or sushi (I’m addicted to it). And that’s how I got the freshman 15… Anyways, knowing how to cook can come in handy, so just learn how to cook a couple dishes! Packing clothes for college is so hard (at least for me). I literally get separation anxiety when I don’t have all of my clothes with me. So leaving some clothes at home was challenging. Cleaning up your closet during the summer will make it so much easier for you to pack for college.Research clubs & organizations
Joining a club or organization is one of the ways to make friends in college! Not only will you meet likeminded people and expand your circle, but you’ll also spend your time doing something you like. There is a club or organization for literally everything! Do you run track? Join that club, besides they wear those custom track suits that are kinda cute. Do you like fashion? There’s a club for that too! If you’re interested in joining a sorority, now is the time to look into which ones and also what the dates re for recruitment.Spend time with your family
You’ll be moving to campus before you realize it and after you start college, you won’t see your family every day or as often as you do now. So try to spend some time with your family while you can.Spend time with your friends
The same goes for friends. Once high school ends and college starts, everything will be different. Even though, you can stay in touch with your high school friends, they will make new fiends and so will you.
