Moving to college can be really exciting, but it also can be tough. You’ll most likely be living in a tiny dorm with one or more roommates. And while it’s normal for your dorm to get messy, always keep in mind that clutter in your living space can also affect your peace of mind. It’s always a good idea to keep to try to keep your dorm clean and organized. I have to admit that it sometimes gets a bit hard for me to keep my room organized because I’m often really busy, but I’m managing to keep it fairly organized. So, here are 8 tips for organizing your college dorm room.
Organize your cords
Honestly, there’s nothing worse than tangled cords. If you have a desktop computer, consider organizing your cords with VELCRO® BrandOne-Wrap®Ties. And even if you don’t have a desktop computer, your cords can get tangled everywhere, like in a drawer or in your backpack. I always get so annoyed when I’m trying to find my phone charger and it’s tangled in my backpack with my laptop charger and headphones. You can keep them from getting tangled with these ties. It gets so much easier to just take your chargers out of your backpack.
Get a mattress caddy or bedside floating table
I don’t know about you but, for me, a nightstand is always necessary. It makes life easier, you can just put your glasses there before going to sleep, or a book you read before going to bed. But unfortunately, there’s not enough space in a dorm to have one. And while that’s sad, don’t worry because there’re other options. You can still get a mattress caddy or a bed shelf. Honestly, these two can be life savers. My freshman year I was using a bamboo bedside floating table I got at Bed Bath & Beyond. I loved it and even though it wasn’t big enough, it was still a life savior.
Create a Gallery Wall
Okay I know this is a tip for decorating your dorm, but bear with me. One thing about dorms is that you can’t damage the walls. Which can be a bit challenging when you’re trying to decorate the walls by hanging photos or banners. But don’t worry, I got you. I’ve tried different brands of hooks or wall fasteners that claimed to be damage-free, but guess what happened… I ended up ripping a lot of paint off my wall. And when this happens in some schools, you get fined. That wasn’t fun at all and I was actually scared to give VELCRO® BrandHANGables®Removable Wall Fasteners a try. But I’m glad I took the risk. You can literally stick the HANGables®Removable Wall Fasteners to the wall and remove them without causing any damage at all!!
I used the bigger removable wall fasters for the heavy things like canvases or the cork board. And the smaller ones for light things like the photos. Another thing I like about VELCRO® BrandHANGables®Removable Wall Fasteners is that you can change the place of the photos. If you don’t like the layout and how they’re organized you can just move them around until you do like the layout. And yes that’s my booty on my wall ;).

Get organizers
What’s a better way of organizing your college dorm room than getting organizers, right?
Shoe organizer
To keep your closet fairly organized and mess-free, having a shoe organizer is a must! I have this hanging one and it helps a lot to keep my closet less messy than it already is. I wish it was a bit wider, because as you can see, some shoes don’t fit. But that’s okay because I organized my other shoes at the bottom. There’re different types of shoe organizers, it all depends on the space you have in your closet and how many shoes you have…
Makeup Organizers
Well, a fun fact about me is that I only use my desk when getting ready in the mornings. There’s only makeup and jewelry on it. I never use it to actually study. And before you say anything negative, I simply can’t study at my dorm. I get distracted so easily, not to mention I just want to get in my bed and take a nap… Anyways, if you’re trying to find a way to organize your makeup, makeup organizers really help! I have this rotating organizer where I put my makeup brushes, mascara and concealers and it’s honestly one of the best things I ever got in my life! Okay, I might be exaggerating a bit, but I love it! I also have this lipstick tray kinda thing that I like, and the organizer I use to hold my makeup palettes is actually a book organizer.
Jewelry organizers
Sometimes keeping your necklaces from getting tangled can be a struggle. And also why keep them in a drawer, when you can also use them as part of your room decor. Here’re two ways you could organize your necklaces. You could buy a necklace T organizer and hang them, or you could just use the VELCRO®Brand HANGables®Removable Hooks for jewelry as decoration on your walls. When it comes to earrings, things don’t change a lot. You can keep them in boxes or display them and use them for decor too.
Get creative
Let’s be real, dorm shopping is expensive. And buying an organizer for everything might not be a good idea when you’re trying to save some money. So, be creative and try to use what you already have. Like for example, I decided to hang my earrings in this book organizer and I decided to put my makeup palettes in another one. Ultimately, you can always find cheap organizers at target or other stores, I think I got these for less than $5.
Use hooks
Use VELCRO®Brand HANGables®Removable Hooks to hang your bags, scarves, belts in your closet or to hang banners and string lights on your wall. Using hooks is definitely a way to save space while organizing your closet or decorating your room. Just make sure to buy the right hooks according to the weight they can hold.
Guys, I totally recommend using VELCRO®Brand products, especially when you’re planning to hang or stick things on your wall. As I said before, I’ve had awful experiences with other brands that claimed to be damage-free but weren’t. And the reason I’m partnering with VELCRO®Brand because I truly love their products and believe in them! Their products are actually what they claim to be and they’re awesome for organizing your college dorm room and decorating it.
