I know New York Fashion Week was a while ago already… but I’ve been way too busy and completely forgot to publish this post, so, here we go! I just moved to NYC just a bit longer than a month ago. About 2 weeks before Fashion Week started. Since I still consider myself a super small blogger and Instagrammer and just had gotten to the city, I decided to wait until I know my way around the city and get used to this lifestyle + until I grow my following, to start reaching out to brands that are performing during this week. But, about a week before NYFW, I got an email and it was an invitation for the LANYU fashion show.
I was shocked! I never thought I would get invited to a fashion show so soon. And had no idea who this designer was, but I accepted the invitation. I mean, who wouldn’t?
Honestly, I had no idea what to expect and what to wear. I feel like there isn’t a set attire for fashion week. Some girls wear a super dressy dresses and high heels while others just wear pants and a blazer. It varies so much and I had NO IDEA what to wear. So, I decided to go for just white pants, white heeled boots, a plaid blazer and a neon turtleneck.
Guess what happened the day of the show? I was LATE, as per usual… If you read any Fashion week tips articles, the first tip or rule is never be late. But, yeah I’m me and I’m always late… When we first got there, the show had already started but the venue was so cute and the designs were literally flawless! I had no idea what I was expecting but the show ended so fast (probably because I was late too). But really, all of the sudden all of the models came out and the music stopped playing and that was it. The designer didn’t come out and people started standing up to take pictures at the runway (typical influencers) jk, I did that too!

I thought my fashion week experience was over but apparently it wasn’t. I had previously signed up to be a volunteer at a fashion show that Sunday. Normally, volunteering means helping dress the models or setting up the venue. But, when I got there, I was simply told to “save a seat” just in case someone important arrived. but, guess what? No one came and I just ended up watching the show.
It was the Gogo Graham show. And in my honest opinion it was probably the weirdest show I’ll ever be in my entire life. I don’t want to be bitchy or anything, but I am a very blunt person. Gogo Graham is a designer, that designs clothes for transexual people and I mean I think that’s a great thing, but the show was too much for me… I not only disliked the clothes, I HATED them. I just remember thinking to myself, what is that? what is she thinking? and the typical: what are those?
FYI: I did record some snippets of both fashion shows, just go to my Instagram and it’s in my NYFW 2019 highlights!
Anyways, just to give you some idea of how the show was and why I didn’t liked it, I’ll describe it as best as I can… As we were waiting for the show to start, some weird music of a horse galloping started and then the music was basically a woman crying and saying all sorts of things… it was kinda creepy. The models started going down the runway and they had their face covered by this black/white cloth and the makeup was done on top. Artsy, right? It was okay… until the women in the music started crying more and more and then a model came out, wearing a white weeding dress, with fake blood spilled all over it and that model started crying and screaming too… At this point, I was freaking out.

At the end of the show, I kinda understood the relationship between the music, the bride crying and the suffering of transexual people in their love life (I guess). I understood the message, but the show gave me the creeps and made me feel way too uncomfortable.
Those were the two shows I went to. But, I was also invited to other events, like the Marc Jacobs pop up event and the Nancy Tran presentation. I knew what to expect with the pop up. It was basically just sip on lattes and take a look at the collection and shop. And they had a thing in the afternoon where they would set everything up and just broadcast the live show on screens at their store, while they passed around champagne and snacks. But, I had class and couldn’t stay…

The fashion presentation was nice too. I had no idea who Nancy Tran was, and then I found out she went to my school for the fashion design program.
Anyways, a fashion presentation is like a showroom, where models just walk around or stand. And you can see the clothes more closely and touch the items. It is also a way for designers to show their collection to buyers.
And that was it, that was my first NYFW experience and I honestly can’t wait for the next one!
