Get a planner and actually use it
Okay, this is something you definitely have heard before. And the reason you probably heard it, is because it is effective! If you don’t want to carry a planner everywhere, then just download an app on your phone. There are tons TONS of apps you can use. If you’re a college student I recommend using Pocket Schedule (available on Apple store). It is amazing! You can put all your assignments, exams, organization meetings and more! There are apps like Schedule planner and Todoist (apple). aCalendar or Wunderlist available for Android as well. Planners have weekly, daily and even monthly overviews which allow you to write all your task, ideas and events, so you can have an idea of how your day or week is going to be like. This way you won’t forget anything and you’ll be mentally prepared for busy days! If you do have a normal planner there are a lot of ways you can organize it, there’s more freedom in that way. Anyway, that’s how the app I use looks like.
Prioritize
Which tasks are more important? Submit an assignment due in 2 hours or go to target and buy some things you ran out of? Prioritizing is easier said than done. It is easier to do the fun things first and leaving the most annoying tasks for the last minute. But, prioritizing is probably the most important thing when to comes to time management.Wake up earlier
I used to dread taking classes that started at 8am because it meant I had to wake up extra early, but now it turns out I’m a morning person and wake up super early anyways! I’ve noticed waking up early has helped me be more productive. It can be challenging at first. I’ve read some blog posts and articles about how to wake up earlier and the most helpful tip I’ve came across with was: Just do it! Don’t think about it – just get up. If you’re anything like I was, you probably keep snoozing your alarm and before you realize it, it’s been an hour or two. You’re probably thinking that it is fine to go back to sleep for at least 10 minutes But the secret to waking up earlier is not to think about it. Just do. Instead of thinking that you can probably sleep 10 more minutes you should just stand up and make anything possible to get yourself out of your bed.Plan your week
I do this every single Sunday, having an overview of my week is important to me because that way I can set some small goals of things I need to get done by the end of the week and also it makes me feel more prepared for it. Seeing what assignments I have to submit that week, planning my blog posts and just other things that aren’t necessarily school related, is essential.Plan your day the night before
There’s always some things happening last minute and it is sometimes impossible to plan exactly how your week is going to go. Besides, there’s some things I’d rather plan on a daily basis depending on how I’m feeling – like my workouts. Taking some minutes to organize your day is helpful, whether it is the night before or early in the morning. It doesn’t take long and it really helps you to stay organized.Set weekly goals + do a to do list
This is something I also do on Sundays. I use the lined post it notes to put down all the things I have to get down by the end of the week. And then I also break it down by day depending on how much time I have. Setting some small goals and having a do to list, just helps to keep myself on track and to measure my progress. And the last tip:
Understand that sometimes it’s not possible to get everything done. So, don’t stress out, sometimes there is truly not enough time and that’s not your fault. Always make time to take care of yourself and try to get enough sleep. Take some time to just relax and unplug from work, school and other things. Self-care and mental health are more important than your to-do list.
