It’s a sad state of affairs that so many girls these days put a ridiculous amount of pressure on themselves to look like the models on social media. Instagram has a lot to answer for. Because when college has exhausted you and all you want to do is scrape your hair into a high pony and watch Netflix, you’re made to feel like you should be contouring and eating kale. It’s time to cope and find your shine.
Let’s be honest, though. Kale sucks. Like, really sucks. Why would ANYONE want to sit around and eat kale crisps and guac when they could be eating real chips and dips? College life, work life, family life, social life… that’s a lot of lives to keep up with and all of those things have a tendency to exhaust you. The stress, the exhaustion; it’s all going to take a lot of effort to find your shine when you’re pulled in a million different directions. Exhaustion is a difficult thing to cope with, and beauty expectations are often something that we can’t be bothered with day to day. And yet, while we shouldn’t feel pressed by the Instagram models, we should still make an effort with our appearance.
It’s not about being vain and looking like a tiger while learning how to highlight. It’s about knowing that despite the exhaustion and the stress that is felt every day, you still have a little pride in yourself. It’s choosing to book yourself into that facial rejuvenation session at the end of the semester, because while coffee has replaced your blood volume, you still need to feel good about yourself. It’s going shoe shopping to find the heels that give you that butt lift when you walk. So that you can feel the confidence zing right through you.
You may be tired but finding the way to shine is going to be very dependent on how motivated you feel. Your inner world may be glowing and shining, but you should want to wear that shine on the outside. This means adding those dangly earrings to your outfit, just to feel pretty. It means washing out the weeks’ worth of dry shampoo from your hair because you finally feel like getting your hair blow dried. It’s getting a good night of sleep so that your skin looks a little less grey. There are so many things that you can do to find your shine. And the healthier you feel, the more energised and confident you feel.
Life is always going to be busy. So, unless you take the time on yourself, to workout and eat well, you’re going to lose your shine. No one should allow life to strip them of that. So, drag yourself out of bed a little earlier tomorrow. Maybe, just maybe you should crisp that kale and force yourself to enjoy it. Drink a glass of water. Anything you can do to find your shine, do it today.
